Wrightwood, scattered along Hwy 2 next to the northern slopes of the San Bernardino and Angeles National Forests above 6000 feet, has about 3500 inhabitants. It is a quiet peaceful little village to just kick back and relax or to stay while enjoying the ski resorts only a few minutes away. Its a great halfway point between urban Southern California and Las Vegas, Nevada. Besides skiing, there is camping, picnicing, hiking, and fishing. The Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail is easily accessed as well as a number of other trails in the adjacent national forests. A hike to to the summit of Mt. Baden Powell takes your breath away with the sheer grandeur of the unfolding panoramas. Be sure to take a camera. The photo opportunities are magnificent. A number of dining establishments offer a variety of cuisine for everyone and there are good places to take a break for a cold drink. Shopping in this quaint little village is a relaxing diversion from the recreational pursuits. There are a number of annual events that are all enjoyable and worth attending. The start of the annual Angeles Crest 100 Mile Run from Wrightwood to La Canada is a big favorite. Whatever your interests are, you will love Wrightwood and you don't have to wait for a special occasion to enjoy it. The drive to Wrightwood is the easiest drive to a mountain resort you will find. |
